Our Mission

Our mission at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation is to advance the cultural and scientific programs and purposes of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science. The Foundation’s objectives are to receive, raise and administer funds for the benefit of the Museum and to provide the Museum with a widespread base of community support.

The Foundation provides many services that support the Museum’s research and outreach mission either directly or indirectly: financial and marketing services, development/fundraising and all of the entrepreneurial enterprises at the Museum including the Lockheed Martin DynaTheater, the NatureWorks Discovery Store, the Museum Membership program, the Museum camp-in program, the on-site café, and special events.

Funds raised by special events benefit the Foundation and its efforts to support programs at the Museum. The annual black-tie gala, Chocolate Fantasy, has become one of the premier parties in New Mexico. Mouth-watering chocolate creations by some of New Mexico’s finest chefs highlight the evening; while a silent auction raises significant funds that will ultimately further the objectives of the Museum.

A visit to the Museum allows visitors to explore a wide variety of natural history topics in a supportive and fun atmosphere. Discover the exciting world of super scientists and become a paleontologist when you search for fossils. Travel deep into a volcano, blast off into space, explore the vastness of the universe in the Planetarium, experience a cave with bats and stalagmite formations, study native New Mexican reptiles and amphibians of the past and today, and explore one of our many travelling exhibits. The Foundation plays a key role in providing the educational programs, transformative exhibitions, and enhanced guest experiences that have made the Museum a favorite destination in New Mexico.

As science education becomes increasingly important to our competitiveness as a world-class city and nation, the Foundation and the Museum are partnering to develop the STEM Education Wing. This Wing will be a hands-on, hi-tech learning environment led by the best science educators, which we believe will serve to inspire our next generation of scientists and engineers.

Please join our ever-expanding membership program and be part of the fascinating world of natural history and science at our Museum!
